For the first time in France, Le Petit Ballon is launching a wine bottle in cardboard!
In the world of wine, glass has always been an important raw material. Unfortunately, it has a high carbon footprint…
Faced with this challenge, Le Petit Ballon and CHATEAU MALIJAY have come up with a sustainable alternative. Made from 94% recycled cardboard, the cardboard bottle has a carbon footprint 6 times smaller than the glass bottle.
5 times lighter, it’s also easier to transport. What doesn’t change is the taste! Thanks to a unique process (BIB pouch and Stelvin cap), the precious nectar is preserved and can even be kept for over 12 months.
The icing on the cake is that, once empty, the bottle can be recycled by separating the lining from the paper shell.
With this test, Le Petit Ballon is exploring a possible future for winegrowing. Indeed, 85% of bottles sold in France are consumed within a year of purchase, hence the coherence of developing a cardboard bottle, lighter and less energy-intensive to produce than a glass bottle
We sent it out to over 5,000 of our subscribers to test reactions, and the feedback was excellent.
So, team glass (and its inimitable “pop” on opening) or team carton (and its carbon footprint divided by 6)?
