The Navigator Company chose EDP to create one of the largest solar parks for self-consumption in a company in Portugal, to be installed at Figueira da Foz Industrial Complex. The new 17MWp solar plant will supply another 4% of this unit’s needs with clean energy alone, avoiding the emission of more than seven thousand tons of CO2 per year.
With 26,000 solar panels and the size of 17 football fields, the solar plant will have the capacity to produce 26GWh of electricity per year. In addition to its size, it is distinguished by its innovative character: it will be one of the first in Portugal to use panels with bifacial modules, a technology that allows both sides of the panel to retain sunlight, increasing the park’s capacity by up to 30%.
The project reinforces the partnership between The Navigator Company and EDP, which, in 2021, had already installed a first 2.6 MW solar plant in the same location. Investments that accelerate Navigator’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality in its industrial complexes by 2035, anticipating national and European targets by 15 years.
