The first Technical Day of the year, organised by the French Technical Association of the Paper Industry (Atip) at Condat (Lecta group) on 30 March, was attended by almost 70 people. The day before, a tour of the plant was organized to present the reconstruction of PM8, as part of its conversion to glassine paper. This was a major investment in which safety was a key issue. The results were excellent, with no lost-time accidents recorded during the long construction period.
Aimed at a wide audience (site managers, department heads, suppliers, service providers, etc.), this event provided an opportunity to take stock of all the central issues surrounding the culture of safety, both human and material, in a changing regulatory context marked by the appearance of new threats such as cyber-attacks.
This day was perfectly orchestrated by the Atip team, led by Patrick Sombret and Virginie Batais, and by the Condat team, represented by its director, Stéphane de Gélis. He explained: “Today, with the same people, we are nine months ahead of schedule, whereas the project was seven weeks late at the start. (…) Generally speaking, 90-95% of accidents are caused by bad behaviour”. Lisa Malslanka, Condat’s security manager, also spoke about her experience and the actions taken, as did Véronique Sentenac (Rayonier AM Tartas). The GIE Qualité Entreprises (Eric Vigne) also presented its position and feedback, particularly in the success of the Condat project. The legal aspects were dealt with by Joshua Motte (Unidis), with the enlightenment of Eric Bortolussi (Papeteries de Vizille, Vicat group), who announced the restarting of the Unidis “Health and Safety” Commission.
On the supplier side, Allimand (Simon Cena), Valmet (Boris Hosteins and Gilles Bonnefoy), Ecolab-Nalco Water (Xavier Bénillan) and Tommy Wagemans (Siemens Energy) explained their offer and their approach to this safety theme. For their part, Antoine Jacquinot and Xavier-Laurent Ménard (FM Global) gave feedback from an insurance company, well established in the paper industry, with examples of claims. Finally, the new threats linked to cybersecurity were discussed by several representatives of the Gendarmerie Nationale.
On the paper industry side (excluding speakers), a dozen companies were represented: Ahlstrom Munksjö, Cartonneries de Gondardennes, Cartonneries Lacaux, Fibre Excellence, Norpaper, Norske Skog, Papeteries Léon Martin, Papeteries de Vizille, Rossmann, Saica Paper, Sofidel and Sterimed.
The Atip team is already preparing its next Technical Day, which will be dedicated to artificial intelligence. It will be organised on 22 and 23 June in Lyon, in partnership with the company Acoem. Mark your calendars now !
