Stora Enso has been working with micro-fibrillated cellulose (MFC) for more than 10 years. MFC was first used in the creation of more light-weight packaging board materials that are already commercially available, but recently Stora Enso has commercialised the material itself as a product. The unique strength of this offering lies in the portfolio of grades that allows functionalities spanning from reinforcement through barrier properties to rheology modifier touching the daily lives of many consumers, and bringing added value to many applications in the paints, coatings, specialty papers and personal care industries. Additionally, as a wood-based material, MFC is 100% renewable, recyclable and biodegradable.
