Along with 48 other Spanish companies, the paper manufactuer SAICA will part of a national strategic project called “Decarbonized Bicircularity of Paper” (Papel BCD) led by the Spanish association of paper producers ASPAPEL. It will develop 180 projects in the next three years. with an investment of 1,400 million euros and the generation of 2,400 direct and 8,500 indirect jobs. This was first announced by Javier Lambán and later confirmed by the Aragonese multinational, who insisted that it supports the expression of interest presented by the Paper Value Chain because “Aragón manufactures more than a third of all the paper produced in Spain”.
There are four lines in which this initiative is deployed, as detailed in the project. The aim is to reduce the environmental footprint with the development of replacement processes and products (563 million euros). To do this, energy efficiency improvements and reduction of water use will be made in the manufacturing process and eco-innovation will be promoted through the development of bicircular paper bioproducts (renewable, recyclable and massively recycled) and low in carbon, as an alternative to products. carbon intensive from non-renewable sources.
