Omya announces the commencement of an in-depth review to assess all possible options, including downsizing, for the site at Neu Pirka, Austria.
Omya acknowledges the ongoing structural decline in the European graphical paper industry, which has significantly impacted the demand for calcium carbonate over the past decade. As part of its commitment to remaining a dedicated and reliable partner to its Paper and Board Customers, Omya seeks to consolidate its calcium carbonate production capacity in Europe around strategic assets. This strategic realignment is the next phase of the operational review announced in May of 2023 and is essential to adapt to current market conditions and meet future customer demands.
Omya has contacted the workers council at Neu Pirka. The consultation processes will start soon while all possibilities will be carefully considered, including the potential closure of the slurry production line.
Omya reiterates its assurance that customers will continue to be served from other Omya locations. Investment options to meet the future demand for dry ground calcium carbonate grades are under review. The company is committed to maintaining its position as a leading provider of calcium carbonate solutions while adapting to evolving market dynamics.
