The Navigator Company completed the acquisition of all shares representing the share capital of GOMÀ-CAMPS CONSUMER, S.L.U, and the french company GOMÀ-CAMPS FRANCE SAS, owned until now by one of the oldest and most prestigious Spanish family businesses producing paper for more than 260 years.
The acquisition of the Consumer Tissue business of the Gomà-Camps Group is part of the ambitious growth and diversification plan of the Navigator Group, and reinforces its strategic position in the Iberian tissue market, becoming the 2nd largest player in just 8 years, with an annual production capacity of 165 thousand tons.
With the acquisition now completed, Navigator increases the existing tissue production capacity in Aveiro and Vila Velha de Ródão with the plant of Ejea de los Caballeros, in the vicinity of Zaragoza, providing 35,000 tons more of paper production and up to 60,000 tons of finished products.
It is worth mentioning that Navigator joined this business in 2015, through the acquisition of the AMS company in Vila Velha de Ródão, a plant whose annual output capacity stands at 60 thousand tons. This was followed in 2018 by the building from scratch of a tissue industrial complex in Aveiro (70,000 tons per year), interconnected with Navigator’s pulp factory.
The geographical situation of the Spanish manufacturing unit, in addition to contributing to a more optimized management of the Iberian customer portfolio, also makes it possible to come closer to European markets outside Iberia, tapping new businesses in Spain and France, namely through the supply of large food retail chains. Thus, the Group reinforces its diversification of markets and customers, which will be granted access to a more comprehensive and complementary product portfolio.
This operation will also allow the integration of talent, experience, working methods and excellence in the execution of the 151 professionals of the GC Consumer unit, thus enabling Navigator to keep enhancing the appreciation of the talent of its employees and ensure access to new professional development opportunities.
The new growth cycle reinforces tissue’s share in the Navigator universe
The integration of the new plant will contribute to speeding up growth in the tissue business, which becomes the second most important area in terms of turnover within the Company, ahead of the sale of renewable energy, pulp and packaging.
Navigator estimations point to around €300 million in consolidated sales of high-quality tissue paper, making the most of the advantages and competitiveness provided by the development of vertically integrated operations.
This operation should also enable innovation in processes and products, which has been one of the fundamental pillars of the Company, regularly reinforced with the launch of new products adapted to market trends. Examples of this innovation effort are the Amoos Air Sense™ toilet paper, the first to be launched in the Iberian market with perfume capsules incorporated into the paper that allows a longer duration of the fragrance, and the new Amoos Calorie Control™ kitchen roll, whose paper integrates micro-alveoli created by special embossing technology, which allows an especially effective role in absorbing liquids and fats from freshly fried foods. And proof of suitability to consumer needs was the Five-Star award granted to Amoos Air Sense™ toilet paper. It’s the first time the Company takes the lead in this particular product category in Portugal.
