Metsä Fibre joins the European #GreenSource initiative

Metsä Fibre, part of Metsä Group, is one of the founding members of the new #GreenSource pulp industry initiative together with other members of EPIS, the European Pulp Industry Sector, and CEPI, The Confederation of European Paper Industries. The new industry initiative aims to promote the role of forest-fibre industries in the effort to achieve the EU’s climate neutrality target by 2050.

“We are, and will continue, empowering people to make sustainable choices by providing a growing portfolio of climate-friendly products based on sustainably-sourced, renewable, and recyclable materials.” says Anna Maija Wessman, EPIS Secretary General.

“Extensive, global collaboration is essential in increasing awareness about the forest industry’s actions against the climate change and about the opportunities that wood fibre based products provide for the future,” says CEO Ismo Nousiainen, Metsä Fibre.

“At Metsä Fibre, sustainability and responsibility are an integral part of everything we do. We use Nordic wood from sustainably managed forests in areas where the forests grow more than they are used. All of the wood we use is traceable and comes from certified or controlled forests,” Nousiainen continues. “In 2019, our strong commitment in sustainability and responsibility was recognized in the international EFQM quality competition, where we won the Outstanding Achievement for Sustainability Award and reached the EFQM rating Recognised for Excellence 6 Stars. We have also achieved the highest Platinum level sustainability rating from EcoVadis.”

In addition to Metsä Fibre, other EPIS member companies include Ahlstrom-Munksjö, Altri, Arauco, Burgo Ardennes, BillerudKorsnäs, CMPC, Eldorado Brasil, Ence, Heinzel Group, Klabin, Mercer, Mondi, Navigator, SCA, Stora Enso, Suzano, Södra, and UPM.
