Amit Deep Singh, Sales Director, Kadant India, indulged in a tête-à-tête with Praful Detroja, MD, Lemit Papers LLP, unraveling a few vital aspects of L-group’s venture into the paper industry with 450 TPD Duplex board in Morbi and the secret behind the company’s rise to steady success.
L-group is a renowned name in the Ceramic Industry. Their products are well regarded in both, Domestic and the International market. The company’s new venture into packaging board manufacturing, LEMIT PAPERS, will certainly mark the beginning of yet another successful innings for the L-group.
“L-group consists of a young group of enthusiastic entrepreneurs, which began its journey in 2014 with a vision to serve the finest quality ceramic products at an economical price. With the same business model, we are adding one more feather in the hat of L-group by entering into a highly popular and sought-after segment, that is, packaging board manufacturing at LEMIT PAPERS.”
The company has marked its presence in the tiles business with a whopping 11 factories in a span of merely six years. When asked about the driving factors, Praful credited the success to his team and their high regard for consumers, commitment and technology.

The company will be following the modus operandi in the paper business and aspires to make LEMIT PAPERS a well-known brand in the domestic and international markets in the years to come.
From Need to Opportunity
While emphasizing his belief in the old saying, “necessity is the mother of invention,” Mr. Detroja says that the company grappled with getting hold of boxes for tile packaging during the first wave of COVID-19. It was then that the group first thought about entering into this marketable segment of the Paper industry.
“We believe in backward integration and diversification. We struggled to get boxes for tile packaging during the first wave of the corona pandemic. That inspired us to look towards opportunities in the paper industry. Sensing the untapped demand in the packaging board manufacturing, we laid the foundation stone of LEMIT PAPERS.”
Setting the Benchmark
With the best suppliers and the best technology in its arsenal, Mr. Detroja sounds optimistic about changing the face of Quality in the Duplex Board.
“We are setting up a Duplex Board Paper mill with 450 ton/day installed capacity. Empowered by state-of-the-art technology from world-renowned Paper Machinery suppliers like Kadant Lamort, France, Valmet Automation, Finland, Cellwood Machinery, Sweden, and Quinyan Ping’an light industry Machinery China, we will be producing White Back and Gray Back coated Duplex boards in LWC and HWC coating from 100% recycled paper scrap material.”
Mr. Detroja asserts that besides technology, they look forward to a strong sense of commitment in their suppliers. While a global presence is a must-have, they also seek local availability for better reach and services. When asked what inspired them to choose Kadant, Mr. Detroja reminisced his conversation with Mr. Raphael Jose and Mr. Reghupathy.
“It’s been almost six months, but I still remember my discussion with Mr. Rapahel Jose and Mr. Reghupathy. They tried to explain the features of a good stock preparation very precisely. More importantly, a good stock preparation line from Kadant would give more flexibility in constantly changing contamination levels in waste paper, consume less energy, and be designed to have minimum fiber loss, ensuring the fastest payback for investors. That’s why Lemit is the first Paper mill in Morbi to invest in Kadant stock preparation and approach flow. Now with the local presence of Kadant India office and manufacturing facility in India, many others will follow Lemit’s footsteps”
Future Plans
Mr. Detroja’s team is already working hard to get the production started and is hopeful to serve the complete portfolio in paper products if the odds are in favor.
“We are working day and night to make our dream come true. We are currently in the machinery erection phase and hope to start our trial run by June 2022. We have plans to begin our commercial production by July 2022.
“As soon as we feel confident with the Duplex Board Product, we will start looking for more opportunities in the paper industry.”
