With a solid track record in the pulp and paper industry as well as in the energy sector, Jordi Aguiló takes on the presidency of ASPAPEL, the Spanish Association of Pulp and Paper Manufacturers, with the goal of helping the sector advance in its competitiveness and address challenges such as decarbonization.
Jordi Aguiló will assume the presidency of ASPAPEL for the next two years. Appointed by the Board of Directors, Aguiló succeeds Eduardo Querol, vice chairman of the LECTA Group. During his tenure, Aguiló will be joined by Miguel Ángel Jiménez, Managing Director of Saica Paper, who will continue as vice president of ASPAPEL.
Jordi Aguiló brings over a decade of experience in the pulp, paper, and cardboard production industry and the energy sector. Since 2012, he has held various leadership roles at Ence, including Director General of the Energy business and Director General of the Pulp business. Currently, Aguiló is the Director General of Pulp at Ence and serves as president of Ence Biogas, Ence’s subsidiary that promotes the circular economy by transforming organic waste into biogas.
At a crucial moment for reindustrialization, Jordi Aguiló will preside over the national association of a vital sector that positions Spain as the sixth largest producer of paper and cardboard and among the top five producers of pulp in the European Union. Additionally, the industry positions Spain as the third largest recycler of paper and cardboard in the European Union and generates 16,694 direct jobs and around 85,000 indirect jobs. Aguiló’s experience, coupled with ASPAPEL’s commitment to innovation and the entire sector, will contribute to improving the competitiveness of the pulp, paper, and cardboard industry, strengthening it in the face of the decarbonization challenge, and remaining at the forefront of the bioeconomy and circularity.
Aguiló holds an Industrial Engineering degree from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, a degree in Physics from the University of Barcelona, and an Executive MBA from IESE. His extensive experience has given him a broad perspective in the management and optimization of operations in energy and pulp-related sectors, which is invaluable for building a more innovative and sustainable paper industry.
