International Paper receives the Bureau International du Recyclage (BIR) Papyrus Award for its excellence in paper recycling

International Paper has been awarded the international Papyrus Award by the Bureau International du Recyclage (BIR) for its outstanding contributions, leadership, and excellence in paper recycling. BIR represents over 30,000 companies worldwide and is considered the largest and most prestigious international recycling federation.

At BIR’s annual convention in Copenhagen, where awards were presented in each of the five raw material categories, International Paper was recognized for its commitment to sustainable practices and its significant contribution to the evolution of the paper recycling sector. José Chimeno, Managing Director of Carpa, International Paper’s recycling subsidiary in Madrid, was honored with this distinction on behalf of International Paper.

“It is an honor and a privilege to receive this prestigious award on behalf of our company. We thank BIR for this recognition of the work and commitment of all International Paper teams. This motivates us to continue to advance the circular economy and apply responsible practices that ensure a better world for future generations,” said José Chimeno.

International Paper, one of the world’s largest recycling companies, collects, sorts, and processes more than 6 million metric tons of recovered paper and cardboard each year worldwide. In Spain, with over 40 years of dedicated experience, Carpa (Carton y Papel Reciclado S.A.) supplies nearly 480,000 tons of recovered paper to International Paper’s Fuenlabrada (Madrid) mill. The latter is transformed into recycled corrugated board, then converted into new packaging by our regional network of corrugated box plants as part of a circular economy cycle.
