Hinojosa Packaging Group, a specialist in sustainable packaging solutions for the agri-food sector, is proud to announce the launch of its new 100% sustainable and recyclable corrugated cardboard trays, developed exclusively for the E. Leclerc brand, a French chain of hypermarkets and grocery stores. This initiative is part of an ecological approach aimed at replacing plastic trays used for summer fruits. These new packages comply with the French AGEC law on the limitation of plastic packaging for fruits and vegetables packaged less than 1.5 kg.
A project dedicated to the French market and the E. Leclerc brand Eco+
These corrugated cardboard trays are designed for the Eco+ brand, the E. Leclerc brand’s private label. They are intended to hold 1 kg of apricots, peaches, or nectarines. They are an ecological and sustainable alternative to current plastic trays. They are designed to be conditioned by trays of ten trays and adapt perfectly to IFCO 6413 bins for optimized transport. This packaging withstands the constraints of the cold chain to preserve the quality of summer fruits. The temporary closure of the upper flaps allows for practical intermediate storage in IFCO bins. Finally, its flat surfaces guarantee easy labeling and optimal visibility of the fruit.
A sustainable and ecological solution
The tray is made entirely of corrugated cardboard, making it fully recyclable and compostable. It thus significantly reduces the environmental footprint compared to plastic trays. The main challenge was to replace the rigidity and resistance of plastic with the properties of corrugated cardboard, while ensuring effective protection of fragile fruits in a refrigerated environment during their transportation.
An innovative approach for a sustainable future
For Hinojosa, sustainable innovation is essential to meet today’s environmental challenges. The collaboration with E. Leclerc to develop corrugated cardboard trays demonstrates its commitment to offering ecological packaging without compromising quality and functionality. The design of these corrugated cardboard trays represents a significant step forward in the mission to reduce the plastic footprint and promote a future that is more respectful of the environment.”
