After a difficult year in 2023, the European pulp, paper and packaging industry did not see the recovery it had hoped for in 2024. While fiber costs did come down in the second half of the year, other input costs generally remain high, and demand is still rather weak.
While many pulp and paper producers continue to take market-related downtime or to close capacity altogether, the recycled containerboard market looks set to see some 750,000 tonnes per year of net capacity added in the first half of 2025. These are mainly planned conversion projects, some of which have already been postponed and may be again.
From 3-5 March, this year’s Fastmarkets Forest Products Europe Conference will dive into all these critical challenges shaping the pulp, paper and packaging markets.
