Arkhangelsk Pulp and Paper Mill enters new markets with a modified product line

The Arkhangelsk Pulp and Paper Mill JSC and its subsidiaries continue both production activities and the full implementation of social policy in all areas of its presence. All the enterprises fulfill the full range of their obligations to customers and partners.

But, at the same time, the realities of the actual situation raise the question of the need to develop a strategy for responding to external challenges as soon as possible. The Arkhangelsk Pulp and Paper Mill JSC is also looking for new opportunities to reduce the negative impact on its production activities.

In particular, the Mill depends on imported chemicals like many other enterprises of the timber industry. The main supplier of components for the preparation of bleaching reagents stopped deliveries to Russia. To minimize the risks in the production of cellulose, APPM promptly developed an alternative process for the preparation of chlorine dioxide, which will exclude sulfur dioxide from the process technology. Together with the Northern (Arctic) Federal University, experimental tests were conducted in laboratory conditions, which confirmed the validity of the Mill’s decision. Currently, the enterprise is implementing a concept for preparing a chemical substitute.

At the same time, the Arkhangelsk Pulp and Paper Mill is dealing with potential suppliers from China, Turkey and Southeast Asian countries, India with the supply of sodium chlorate, hydrogen peroxide and other materials and equipment. But the process of reorientation to other suppliers will take some time.

To avoid idle production facilities, the Arkhangelsk Pulp and Paper Mill is changing the product line, including unbleached hardwood and softwood pulp, as well as the entire line of densities of unbleached one-sided smoothness paper from papermaking machine No. 6 (PM-6). For this purpose, a pilot batch of unbleached hardwood and softwood pulp was produced. Pilot samples of products have already been created on PM-6. They will be sent to potential purchasers for evaluation and testing.

The Arkhangelsk Pulp and Paper Mill hopes that the proposed products will be in demand, and the Mill will expand its order portfolio, thereby increasing stability under the harsh conditions of sanctions.

Currently, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia is preparing proposals to the Government on additional measures to support the timber industry. The Arkhangelsk Pulp and Paper Mill believes that the programs intended for prompt development and implementation of Russian analogues of chemicals used in the timber industry should be among the top priorities.
