The screen plate industry in Finland traces its roots back to Varkaus, where it began as part of the war reparations effort. Production of perforated plates started in June 1945, with the very first plates perforated on June 1. At the time, AFT operated as part of A. Ahlström’s factory—our name and structure would evolve later, but the spirit of innovation was already alive.
What made Varkaus the ideal location for this work? It was the strong machine shop expertise and craftsmanship in the area. That same engineering know-how continues to be one of our greatest strengths—80 years later.
Today, Aikawa Fiber Technologies Oy continues to manufacture screen plates, drums, and rotors for pulp screening. Over the decades, our offering has grown to include advanced fiber processing equipment and process solutions—the very heart of AFT’s expertise.
