Konecranes named winner of the Internationalization Award of the President of Finland for 2024

Konecranes has received Finland’s prestigious Internationalization Award of the President of the Republic, recognition of its decades-long successful growth and expansion from Hyvinkää, Finland to a presence in over 50 countries globally.

The annual award, which was established in 1967, focuses on criteria including competitiveness, geographic scope of business operations and profitability. The evaluation also covers the responsibility of operations, impact on the development of Finnish competence and employment, investments in Finland, and raising awareness of Finnish innovation. The award proposal was made to the President by the members of the Team Finland network, Business Finland, ELY centers, Finnvera and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Konecranes President and CEO Anders Svensson led a small group of senior Konecranes employees in receiving the award today from the President of the Republic of Finland, Alexander Stubb.

“We are truly honored to receive this recognition, which happens to fall in the same year when we celebrate 30 years as an independent company. The critical factor for this longevity – our roots in Finland go back over 100 years – has been our ability to successfully internationalize. Today we operate globally with an employee base of around 16,700 people,” CEO Svensson said.

“As we have expanded, we’ve prioritized establishing deep relationships with our customers. This is essential when you consider the often mission critical nature of their operations, the long lifespan of our material handling solutions and the urgent need to work together to reduce carbon emissions. Given our global manufacturing footprint and network of thousands of employees, we also recognize that we must represent the multicultural communities where we operate. Diversity, equity and inclusion are vital to our ability to consistently deliver a world-class customer and employee experience.

“When you look at the growing political uncertainty globally – which has led to increasing protectionism, among other things – we think that the close connections with our customers and the communities where we have a presence will continue to serve us well. Konecranes can leverage the benefits of being a global company to deliver material handling excellence at a local level. There are few companies in our field that can do the same,” Svensson concluded.

A strong focus on customers and commitment to business growth and continuous improvement make Konecranes a material handling industry leader. This is underpinned by investments in digitalization and technology, plus our work to make material flows more efficient with solutions that decarbonize the economy and advance circularity and safety.
