Valmet will supply consistency measurements to Norske Skog’s Golbey mill in France. The new measurements will be implemented in the new stock preparation unit and replace the aged ones from Golbey’s PM 1, which is currently being converted from the production of newsprint to the production of recycled containerboard.
The order was included in Valmet’s orders received of the first quarter 2023. The measurements were delivered during the first quarter of 2023. The value of the order will not be disclosed.
“We have selected Valmet for our consistency measurements as we wanted optical transmitters that are not affected by the shade of the pulp. In addition, we appreciate Valmet’s support for our instrumentation,” says Thierry Dubois, Paper Line Manager at Golbey.
“We have been cooperating with Golbey for years with our consistency measurements solutions. This project is the largest one for Valmet’s measurements negotiated in France for more than 20 years. With the latest measurement technology we supply, the order complements Valmet’s winder delivery for the Golbey Box project,” says Christian Guerry, Sales Manager, Automations Systems business line, Valmet.
Valmet’s delivery includes five Valmet Microwave Consistency Measurements (Valmet MCA G4), two Valmet Blade Consistency Measurements and 16 Valmet Optical Consistency Measurements from the latest generation to measure total consistency as well as ash content.
Measuring all solid particles in the process, the Valmet MCA enables better control for more efficient production, improved quality and economic savings with fewer process upsets. This will help the mill to reach its high performance targets. After the conversion, Golbey PM 1 will produce recycled fluting and testliner grades with a design basis weight from 70 to 135 g/m2.
